24/7 chat on your website
A chat window on your website that answers customer questions at any hour, in whatever language they ask in. It answers from what you have taught it — it does not invent prices, delivery times or policies.
Do I need an API key?
No. The code you paste carries a key starting with pk_live_, and that key is not a
secret — it sits in the HTML of a public page, so any visitor can read it. That is by
design: a website with no server and no .env file has nowhere to keep a secret, and
pretending otherwise would be worse than useless.
What decides who may use your chat is the list of allowed websites. When the browser makes the request it sends the page's address, and page JavaScript cannot forge that value. If somebody copies your code onto another website, it is refused.
Installing
1. Paste the code into your site
In the dashboard, under Put the chat on your website, pick what your site runs on and follow the instruction:
| Platform | Where to paste |
|---|---|
| HTML | Just before </body>, on every page |
| WordPress | Appearance → Theme File Editor → footer.php, before </body> (or a plugin like WPCode) |
| Shopify | Online Store → Themes → Edit code → layout/theme.liquid, before </body> |
| Wix | Settings → Custom Code → Body – end, on all pages |
| Squarespace | Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Footer |
| Webflow | Project Settings → Custom Code → Footer Code, then publish |
| Google Tag Manager | New Tag → Custom HTML, trigger: All Pages |
2. Open your website once
That is all. The dashboard then says "The chat is live on your website", with the time it last saw it. Until it says that, it is not installed.
3. If the address does not match
This is the commonest problem and it is not your fault: you type https://www.myshop.com/ and
the browser sends www.myshop.com. You do not have to work that out.
When the chat is refused, we record the address it came from and the dashboard shows:
We saw the chat on a new address —
www.myshop.com. Allow it?
One click and it works. Until then the chat does not appear at all on your site — there is no broken button sitting in front of your customers. If you are testing, open the browser console: the explanation is there.
If your website will not let you add code
It happens, especially on the cheaper Wix and Squarespace tiers and on hosted booking systems. Turn on "Also give me a shareable link" in the dashboard and you get two alternatives:
- A link at
nexiagent.com/chat/…to put behind a button, in a menu, in an email signature, or on a QR code at the counter. - An
<iframe>to embed in a page, if your platform allows that but not a script.
Same assistant, same knowledge base, same plan. It is off by default: here the website list no longer protects anything — anyone with the link can chat — so it is your choice, not something we switch on for you.
Changing the greeting and colour
In the dashboard, without touching your site. The code you pasted does not change.
Teaching the assistant
The assistant only knows what is in What the assistant knows. Paste it there, in separate pieces:
- opening hours and address
- prices and payment methods
- delivery times and costs
- returns and refunds
- the questions your team hears most
The more concrete, the better. "We deliver in 2 to 3 working days across mainland Portugal for €4.90" is useful; "we deliver quickly" is not.
If someone asks about something that is not written down, the assistant says it does not have that information and offers to pass the message on. That is deliberate: an assistant that guesses at a returns policy costs more than one that says "I don't know".
When a person is needed
If the customer asks for a human, is unhappy, or needs something that touches their account, the assistant hands the conversation over and opens a support request in your dashboard with a summary — so nobody has to ask them twice.
Limits
Each plan includes a number of conversations per month. A conversation is a visitor, not a message: someone who asks six questions in a row counts as one.
- At 80% you get an email.
- At 100% the assistant stops answering until the plan renews.
You can see usage at any time in the dashboard. There is never a surprise bill.
